Problems still remain today in terms of our human rights issue. These problems
are ill-treatment, torture, and horrible conditions of detention. All of these
problems should have been disappeared, if you ask for my personal opinion.
Children are being physically, emotionally, and mentally tortured. Physical
abuse is forced upon many children in the U.S. Some children are beaten until
they give up or even until death. Emotional abuse is forced upon children when
the parent(s) tell the child each day that he/she will never be anything in
life or that no one loves them. Mental abuse is forced upon children when all
that child knows is that he/she will not be anything, just good for laying on
their backs and that is, only because their parent(s) said so. Most of the time
these three abuses lead to suicide or homicide of children.
As I was doing research on this issue and my defender, I was surprised of
what I had read. Marian Wright- Edelman, my defender, was the first African
American woman to be admitted to the Mississippi Bar. Studying children’s
rights issue taught me that ordinary people go through a lot each day. Even
though children are being violated of their rights, their are people who go to
work and solve these unnecessary doings of hatred people everyday of their
lives.
Studying Marian Wright- Edelman, my defender, taught me how to be a leader
today. Marian opened my eyes to many things that I was blind to before in the
past. Marian let me know that if we do not step up for the children of the
world, then no one else will. I admire that my defender actually cares for us,
the children. I see/know now that there are people in the world who care about
us more than anyone else, even if they are not a relative to us. These people
are willing to dedicate and contribute to organizations/ groups, to make us,
the children, a brighter future and many years to come after. There are issues
that I would be willing to become a defender for today. One of these issues are
children’s rights, considering that i’m a child myself. What would make me
become involved in this human rights struggle today is if my school or
community started a club/program that deals with supporting the
children.
